The Pieter Groot Reminiscences, [ca. 1976], consist of a photocopy of Groot's memoir, Vijftig Jaren (Fifty Years) 1926-1976, which includes photographs of Groot as well as important people and places in his life. The memoir describes his childhood in the Netherlands, experiences during World War II, political activities in Dutch East Indies (Indonesia), service in the Dutch Air Force, immigration to the United States, and positions at Texas A & M University.

Born in Haarlem, Netherlands, in 1926, Pieter Groot was the son of Pieter and Anna Maria (Korzelius) Groot. Following the end of World War II, Groot served in the military in the Netherlands and Dutch East Indies, now Indonesia, before joining the Royal Dutch Air Force in 1951. While training with the Air Force in the United States, Groot married Diana in 1953, and the couple had four sons: Roy, Richard, Paul, and John.
